Hotels face unique challenges when it comes to access control. Most hotels have a large number of staff that work varied shifts throughout each 24 hour period. Housekeeping, maintenance, front desk staff, cooks, bartenders and management all need access to the staff entrance and various facilities throughout the hotel. Controlling access with a card or key-based system is difficult, because these items can easily be misplaced, forgotten or even stolen. They also provide no audit trail, and no way to control access according to day or time.
Managing hotel employee attendance is also a challenge. Hotel staff work varied shifts, in various locations throughout the facility. Management typically relies on manual time sheets or punch cards, which can lead to errors, "buddy punching" or other inaccuracies that cause overpayment of wages. Biometric Access Control and Attendance Tracking
The PeopleKey system consists of one of more wall-mounted fingerprint readers, as well as our Fingerlan biometric management software. Fingerlan runs on a PC or server, and connects to your fingerprint readers via a wired or wireless network. Fingerlan stores each employee’s user profile including name, ID number, fingerprint template and access privileges. Individuals or groups can be granted unique access privileges in Fingerlan, which are pushed to the network of fingerprint readers. For instance, a user or group may be permitted to enter door “A” at any time, and to enter door “B” only between the hours of 9am-5pm on Mondays and Tuesdays.
Once an employee is enrolled in the system, he simply clocks in for work by entering a short PIN number and touching his finger on the fingerprint reader. A time stamp is saved on the fingerprint reader itself, and automatically sent over the network to the Fingerlan database where it can later be queried. If the fingerprint reader is also connected to a door strike or security system, it can even unlock an adjacent door in order to allow entry.
When it’s time to calculate payroll, simply open our Tidy Time application and import your employee in/out transactions from Fingerlan. Tidy Time will compare each employee’s actual work times to your customizable employee rosters, apply any shift or break rules that you’ve specified, and produce a payroll report. It can even export this report to an existing payroll application such as MYOB.
